After putting oranges in the compost pile, I realized somebody was dragging them under a nearby trailer and eating them.
The next week, I set up the trail cam when I brought some apples.
I discovered a Red Squirrel enjoying the feast.

Based on her belly, it looks like she has babies on board.
Apologies for the poor quality, trail cam pictures are hit or miss.

It is impossible to keep the gray squirrels out of my client’s apple trees, and nobody would mind if they took one apple at a time, but no, one bite and on to the next.
I never thought of squirrels being a problem in an orchard. I wonder if I’m encouraging the wrong behaviour.
In the same client’s yard, where I planted a few tomato plants for her the squirrels either ate, stole or destroyed every one of the tomatoes. I quite planting them in her yard. Now I bring her tomatoes from those I grow on my third floor patio. That problem solved and one of her two apple trees died so we will see what happens this summer.
